AWS was founded and is led by two proven executives who bring years of national and international experience to AWS in virtually all phases of a business’ life cycle, from startup through maturation and market dominance.
Stephen McCorkle, founder and CEO, has over 30 years experience, including over 20 years of global operations and senior executive positions with Schlumberger, the world’s leading energy services company, and over 10 years in renewable energy from agriculture. Steve has lived in the U.S., Europe and the Middle East and has worked in and managed operations in many countries. He is an electrical engineer and holds an MBA. In 2006, he was elected Chairman of the Animal & Poultry Waste Management Center at North Carolina State University, home of the largest ever study of technologies to abate animal waste pollution.
Richard Abruscato, CFO and co-founder, is a CPA with over 35 years of experience in various senior executive positions and financial/consulting services. He started his career in international public accounting with Arthur Young & Co. During the first alternative energy boom of the 1980’s, Rich co-founded a cogeneration company. Then, as chairman and CEO, he took the company public. He has a total of 17 years experience in renewable energy. He has since consulted for emerging companies and has been a board member and a consultant to several boards.
Patrick Nielson, director and investor, has more than 25 years of corporate general counsel experience with Dole Food Company, Inc. and with GrupoNueva’s portfolio companies, focused on sustainable development.
Paul Higbee, director and investor, has more than 25 years of investment banking experience. He has worked as managing director of Deutsche Banc Alex Brown, and as managing director and head of the Industrial Group at PaineWebber and the Energy Group at Drexel Burnham. He has also served on numerous boards for public and private companies.
